so, um, hi there...

Wow. So it's been awhile, huh? How have you been? Me, oh, just fine. I got ROCKBAND (Wii) for my birthday...I kind of play it a lot. Sometimes I sew...like the other day I made some rad curtains for my living room out of this fabric:

When I get around to making the matching rad pillows I'll share some pics. I also have a kid in middle school who's in, like, a trillion different activities so that keeps me busy. Oh yea, I get to go see a sneak preview of Choke tonight courtesy of my friend, Tony. I hear it's really good (7 out of 10 stars on IMDB). It won the Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival, and was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize.

Choke, the movie, is based on the book by Chuck Palahniuk (my FAVE author). Chuck also wrote Fight Club. I hear some of his other novels are in production, Survivor (my #1), Invisible Monsters and Rant (which was just released a little over a year ago).

Today I started back on my work-out routine. I don't know why, but the very second I leave the gym I want to eat an entire cake...and I NEVER crave sweets. I guess I'll eat that orange I brought with me to work. yay.

My little bear turns 12...

Tomorrow, my only child turns 12. It's great and all, but I miss the "little girl" so much. We've been (really, just me) painting her bedroom - trying to give her a more grown up look. She's chosen the fun and trendy blue/brown color scheme. I still need to paint the horizontal brown stripe that will go along the top around the whole room. As you can see, even the ceiling is painted and let me tell you -- painting a ceiling is a pain! But it was worth it, don't you think? I'll keep you updated as it comes along.

New Amy Butler

I'm not shy about professing my love for all things Amy Butler. Her work is amazing and it truly inspires me. I love her aesthetic and that her work is attainable and affordable. And she's done it again -- she created a new line for Rowan Fabrics that is truly gorgeous. Here's what she has to say about her new line "Midwest Modern" (due out in April) and a sneak peek.

And on a side note, Craft-O-Rama has just added a new sewing class based on Amy's "lotus tunic and cami" pattern. I think the tunic is adorable -- I could live in those all summer! The classes are in February and are two-parts (3 hrs each). Go here for more information.

Mock up craft room

So, I have some space at home where I can do all of my crafty little projects, but it needs to be beautified. Here's a little mock up of what I plan to do.



The folding table is something I already have. I would purchase that shelf and the shades from IKEA. I found that awesome MCM desk at a dumpster - I will put it to work as my sewing table. It's not in the best shape, but it has so much potential. I was thinking of painting it black (I changed the picture so you can see what it would look like). Is black a bad idea? The top of the table is laminate, but the rest is solid wood. I could always try to refinish the table, but what would I do about that top? In some of the vintage modern stores I frequent I've seen pieces painted black that look awesome.

Then there's the topic of fabric. IKEA is having a sale on Pernilla fabric this week only (11/5-11/9) for $4 a yard (reg. price $8). Below is the only option I like.

That's a pretty good deal and I would need about 10 yards to cover windows and whip up a make-shift room divider to block out noise. I'm worried that it's kind of ugly though. Be honest...is it? I like this IKEA fabric better, but it's twice the cost.



The good thing about the IKEA fabric (aside from the cost) is that its 59" wide and it's a heavy, durable cotton.

Oh, on the side there is some artwork by Matte Stephens that inspired my color choices. Isn't it great? It's so perfectly retro. The piece with the kitty is already in my collection (thanks to Chad & Julie) and I'd like to add the others. If you want to see more of his work check out his Etsy shop. It's also very affordable.
