What's it like to be a crafty genius?

Received this little nugget in the mail today.



Most works of non-fiction don't hold my interest, however, Craft Inc has gotten rave reviews by crafty women I admire. I used Amazon's Online Reader to peer inside the book and I was hooked after reading Chapter 1: Creative Mythology - which dispels such myths as (or excuses as I call them) "to be an artist you should have a background in fine arts or design" and "all of the great ideas have already been done, someone else could do it better than I ever could." If anything, I'm hoping it will inspire me further.

If you're interested to know, I picked it up from Amazon.com for under $12. Three reasons Amazon.com is great if you like to buy books (that's all I buy from there): Reason 1-the books always seem to be on sale or discounted. This one was 32% off cover price. Not too shabby. Reason 2-free standard shipping for orders over $25. For me, it takes about a week. I'm sure that's the norm. Reason 3-I never have to pay tax on my orders. I live in Texas, so I'm not sure if that's different elsewhere.

Well, I'm off to catch up on my reading. Toodles.

My friends and I did some vintage-store browsing this weekend. We made a stop at some of the best shops in Austin: Homegirls, Hog Wild, Room Service (north), Austin Modern and La Luz. I picked up this lovely little ceramic casserole dish with lid by Oven Proof USA at Room Service for only $4.25. I collect vintage dish-ware and this will be great addition to my pieces (I'll show you sometime), plus, great price, huh?


All the shops have such a great selection of vintage finds.

Austin Modern, Homegirls and La Luz all have a well-edited selection and reasonable prices. Austin Modern had some great lamps. This set caught my eye (one of a set shown, around $120/set).

Hog Wild and Room Service are more on the kitschy/rockabilly side of modern. It's so much fun to rummage thru their stores. They really feel like you've stepped back in time.

I was raised to be a thrifty shopper, which is why I love my Borders Rewards card. If you don't have one, you should definitely read this post. (I'm really not trying to sound like an advertisement!) So, you sign up for this free card (it's really easy to do) and every week they send you a new in-store coupon to be used on one item of your choosing, it could be books, DVD's, stationery, CD's, etc. The coupons are good too, ranging between 20-30% off (there are certain restrictions, but they are minimal). There's some other perks too, but mainly I just want the coupon. Even if you prefer to borrow your books, maybe you'd like to save some money on a pricey DVD box set or pick up a lovely journal as a gift? The Borders I go to has an awesome Paperchase section with products ranging from gift wrap, to overnight bags and Borders is one of the only places I have been able to find Paperchase products. If you aren't familiar with Paperchase this is what they have to say about themselves: "Paperchase is the undisputed retail brand leader in design led and innovative stationery in the UK." Um, okay!
